DIMAPUR DISTRICT EXECUTIVE FORCE
While Naga Hills was under the administration of the Govt. of Assam, Dimapur police was then functioning with a handful staffs under the establishment of Superintendent of Police, Kohima. The SDPO, Dimapur was first posted in 1969. Later the post of SDPO, Dimapur was upgraded to the post of Addl. Superintendent of Police, Dimapur in 1973. Again, owing to the expansion of the areas and rapid growth of population as well as crime, the post of Addl. Superintendent of Police, Dimapur was again upgraded to the post of Superintendent of Police, Dimapur. Therefore, the whole function of Dimapur Police was bifurcated from the establishment of the Superintendent of Police, Kohima.
Police establishment in Dimapur came into being on 04/04/1961 with the setting up of a Police station headed by Sub-Inspector S.I. Shyam Lushai took over the charge as the new Officer-in-Charge of Police Station. The post of Sub-Divisional Police Officer was created in 1967, Shri. M.B. Kar (NPS) took over as the first S.D.P.O. of Dimapur.
The SDPO post was up graded to that of the Addl. Superintendent of Police in the year 1982, Shri. Aonochet Ao, IPS was the first to hold the post.
The full-fledged post of Superintendent of Police was created in the year 1983 with Shri. S. A. Jamir, taking over the post on 20/01/1983 . In the year 1993 the post was bifurcated into 2(two) Shri. Ved Prakash, IPS as the S.P. city and Shri. O. Alem, IPS as the Sr. S.P. of Dimapur but later the post of SP (City) was abolished. Again, in the year 1994 Dimapur Police District was bifurcated with the setting up of the S.P. Post at Peren and posting of Shri. Lamponok Ao as the first Superintendent of Police, Peren on 01/04/1994 .
In the year of 2001, 100 personnel of P.R. staff were posted to this D.E.F. establishment vide order No. PHQ(B-VI)1/WIRELESS/2000 dated 12/09/2000 .

The 1st NAP Bn was raised on 1-4-64 vide Govt. of Nagaland, Home Deptt. Order NO.14/5/POL/63 dated 22-4-64 with Headquarter at Chumukedima.
* 11th NAP (IR) Battalion at Chumukedima
The 11 NAP(IR) Bn was sanctioned vide GOI, MHA order NO.16011/11/2004-PF.IV(vi) dated 18/11/2004 and subsequent approval of the GON, Home Deptt (Police General Branch) letter NO.POL-7/IRB/18-99 dated 14/12/2004. This was the 3rd IRB Bn raised by the GOI and it was officially named as the XI NAP(IR) Bn.
The Battalion was raised on 05/02/2005 by the designated Commandant Shri P. F. Zeliang, IPS with the name " THE VALIANT ELEVENTH".
* 13th NAP (IR) Battalion at Chumukedima
The 13th NAP Battalion (IR) was sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs, GOI vide order No.16011/20/2005-PF IV(v) Dated 15.05.2007 and subsequent order by the Govt. of Nagaland vide POL-8/IRB/61/2007 dated 27.09.2007.
* 14th NAP (IR) Battalion at Razhuphema
The 14 NAP(IR) Bn. was sanctioned vide GOI, MHA letter NO.II 16011/6/2006-PF-IV(v) dated 31.03.2008 and subsequent sanction order of the Govt. of Nagaland, Home Department vide letter NO.POL-8/IRB/34/2008 dated 14.11.2008.
* 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Battalion at Chumukedima
The 15th NAP Battalion (IR) was sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs, GOI vide order No.16011/6/2006 Dated 03.09.2008 and subsequent order by the Govt. of Nagaland vide POL-1/Esst/49/2003 dated 22.12.2008.
